Covelano marble, often called the White Gold of the Alps, is a prestigious natural stone quarried at an elevation of over 2,200 meters in the Stelvio National Park of Italy. Known for its exceptional purity and compact crystalline structure, this marble features a luminous white background accented by delicate veins ranging from smoky gray to warm honey-gold. It is historically celebrated as one of the hardest white marbles in the world, boasting superior frost resistance and durability. Due to its high-altitude origin, extraction is limited to the snow-free months, adding to its exclusivity. Interestingly, it was a favorite of the Austro-Hungarian monarchs and remains a premier choice for high-end sculptures and architectural masterpieces.
This polished marble is Covelano, in white, cut at 2 cm and quarried in Italy. Lot 2367 measures about 112″ × 57″ and is currently on hold at our Los Angeles yard.
This slab
The recorded size of a slab in this lot is 112″ × 57″, about 44 square feet. Thickness is 2 cm. The color on record is white. Natural stone still varies inside that description, so the slab itself is the reference for movement and shade. This material is recorded as quarried in Italy.
The polished finish is reflective and lets the color read clearly. Two centimeters is a standard slab thickness for counters, vanities, and wall cladding.
In the yard
Lot 2367 at our Los Angeles yard shows one slab in stock, one slab on hold, and none currently available. Available means in stock minus slabs on hold.
The yard can confirm whether a held slab can be released.
Where it works
For this kind of stone, the usual applications are bathrooms, vanities, fireplace surrounds, and feature walls. The right use still depends on the finish, the thickness, and how the slab will be cared for after it is installed. Inspiration photos show this stone in a Kitchen and an Accent Wall.
The material
Marble is a metamorphic stone, recrystallized from limestone, and it is valued for veining and a luminous surface. It is softer and more sensitive to acids than granite or quartzite, so wine, citrus, and strong cleaners can etch a polish. That is why it is a classic for bathrooms, vanities, fireplaces, and walls, and for kitchens when the owner wants the look and will live with a natural patina. A honed face shows etching less than a high polish. Vein direction should be planned on the actual slabs before fabrication.
