Limestone
Gris Catalan
Gris Catalan is a sophisticated sedimentary limestone quarried from the Catalonia region of Spain. This distinctive stone is characterized by its deep grey-blue to charcoal palette, often serving as a warmer, fossil-rich alternative to Belgian Blue Stone. Its unique aesthetic is formed by the accumulation of ancient crinoid remains, which are naturally sealed together by micro-crystalline calcite. This process creates a captivating visual texture of black speckled markings interspersed with white coral and shell segments. Renowned for its remarkable hardness and versatility, it is an excellent choice for high-traffic flooring, elegant wall cladding, and durable kitchen worktops. Interestingly, despite its dark appearance, the stone is primarily composed of calcium carbonate, and its decorative depth is intensified by the high concentration of marine fossils embedded within the prehistoric mud.
