Nova Azul, also known as Azul Nuevo — 2 cm white with blue limestone, honed, about 112″ × 62″ per slab. Lot 03, from Portugal, has 11 slabs available at our Los Angeles yard.

This slab

The recorded size of a slab in this lot is 112″ × 62″, about 48 square feet. Thickness is 2 cm. The color on record is white with blue. Natural stone still varies inside that description, so the slab itself is the reference for movement and shade. Nova Azul is also known as Azul Nuevo. Searching either name should lead to this same material. This material is recorded as quarried in Portugal.

The honed finish is smooth and matte, without a high gloss. Two centimeters is a standard slab thickness for counters, vanities, and wall cladding.

Where it works

For this kind of stone, the usual applications are floors, wall cladding, and vanities. The right use still depends on the finish, the thickness, and how the slab will be cared for after it is installed. Inspiration photos show this stone in a Floor.

The material

Limestone is a sedimentary stone, usually calmer in pattern than marble, with a soft mineral color. It is more porous than granite and is a frequent choice for floors, cladding, and vanities. Honed and brushed finishes suit its matte character. Acidic products can etch it, and a sealer is often part of the care plan. Slabs from the same lot are the right set to compare for shade before they are cut.

About Nova Azul

Nova Azul, also known as Azul Nuevo, is a prestigious limestone quarried from the historically rich geological formations of Portugal. Despite its name suggesting a vibrant blue, this stone is celebrated for its sophisticated, luminous white to pale off-white background, often accented by subtle, atmospheric grey-blue undertones and delicate mineral mottling. Its dense, sedimentary structure provides excellent durability and natural slip resistance, making it a premier choice for high-end flooring, wall cladding, and pool copings. Interestingly, while the "Azul" varieties of Portuguese limestone are highly coveted for their cool-toned elegance, they are geologically rarer than their beige counterparts, often found in smaller, unpredictable pockets within the same quarries.
