Black Lightning is a sophisticated Italian marble that commands attention with its deep, midnight-black background. Like sudden flashes in a stormy night sky, sharp bolts of crisp white and soft gray veining strike across the surface, providing a dramatic and high-contrast aesthetic. Also known as Black Toro, this stone is highly prized for its ability to bring a sense of power and movement to interior spaces, particularly when used for statement countertops, fireplace surrounds, or luxury wall cladding. While its dark appearance suggests immense strength, this marble is known for its high acid sensitivity, requiring careful maintenance to preserve its polished or honed brilliance. Interestingly, because the veining is so sporadic, some slabs may appear almost solid black, while others are heavily "electrified" with white streaks, making every installation truly unique.
This polished marble is Black Lightning, in black with semi-white, cut at 2 cm and quarried in Italy. Lot 5671 runs from 107″ × 68″ to 111″ × 68″, with 2 slabs available at our Los Angeles yard.
This slab
The recorded size of a slab in this lot is 109″ × 68″, about 51 square feet. Sizes across the lot run from 107″ × 68″ to 111″ × 68″. Thickness is 2 cm. The color on record is black with semi-white. Natural stone still varies inside that description, so the slab itself is the reference for movement and shade. This material is recorded as quarried in Italy.
The polished finish is reflective and lets the color read clearly. Two centimeters is a standard slab thickness for counters, vanities, and wall cladding.

Where it works
For this kind of stone, the usual applications are bathrooms, vanities, fireplace surrounds, and feature walls. The right use still depends on the finish, the thickness, and how the slab will be cared for after it is installed. Inspiration photos show this stone in a Kitchen and a Powder.
The material
Marble is a metamorphic stone, recrystallized from limestone, and it is valued for veining and a luminous surface. It is softer and more sensitive to acids than granite or quartzite, so wine, citrus, and strong cleaners can etch a polish. That is why it is a classic for bathrooms, vanities, fireplaces, and walls, and for kitchens when the owner wants the look and will live with a natural patina. A honed face shows etching less than a high polish. Vein direction should be planned on the actual slabs before fabrication.
