Agate Yellow

In reflected light this agate is paler than its name suggests. The round, cross-cut slices have translucent white and gray-green interiors, each edged by a band of honey or tan, and the gold inlay filling the joints, textured rather than flat when seen up close, supplies the strongest yellow note. With a light source behind it, the rims turn saturated amber and the composition becomes a field of bright cells outlined in orange.

In the kitchen, Agate Yellow can form a waterfall island or an island paired with a matching wall niche, so the slab works on horizontal surfaces as well as vertical ones. A 2 cm thickness is standard, alternatives range from 0.6 to 4 cm, and made-to-measure slabs go up to 320 x 190 cm. On a working surface, cutting boards and heat pads under pans help protect the finish, and a neutral cleaner takes care of daily wiping.
